WSU Pierce County Food $ense

WSU Extension’s Food $ense (SNAP-Ed) program serves youth and adults with limited resources. Our focus is to develop skills and behaviors to eat healthfully. Families learn nutrition basics and smart buying strategies to help make healthy choices even if your food dollars are tight.

WSU Food $ense is funded by a federal grant from the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. In Pierce County, we currently work with schools in the Bethel, Clover Park, Franklin Pierce, Sumner, and Tacoma school districts. Fun, hands-on learning activities are provided in the classroom for elementary students, as well as in after school and summer school programs.

Strong community partnerships allow us to deliver nutrition education in non-school settings as well. Practical tips are shared in adult and family classes at food banks, affordable housing sites, community health clinics, preschools, and community centers.
