Come Celebrate together at the newly renovated Open Space for Arts & Community this Saturday! O Space now offers more opportunity and new spaces for imagination and creative expression to flourish and grow, places to gather and experience. Grateful for creature comforts like new restrooms and heat, everyone is invited...
Ribbon cutting ceremony happens at noon; then enter and be greeted by larger than life 3-D wood and painted sculptures by Shawn Nordfors, 12 ft tall textile stage costumes (from the private collection of Madame X) lovingly created by Patricia Toovey, new mixed media works by Cathy Sarkowsky, bold acrylic on canvas by Jessica Bolding, upcycled metal works by Julia Anderson, responsible apparel by Rebecca Wittman and new fir bench crafted by Hans Nelsen. Guest Seattle artist Cathy McClure clusters her magical, strobe-lit zoetropes in the middle of Bruce's Black Box Theatre, the jewelbox of Open Space.
Special guest artist Yuming Zhu appropriately occupies the center of the new Grand Hall where he creates Sumi paintings, giant paintbrush suspended from the ceiling; interactive art too. "I invite the viewer to experience through my paintings the joy of being alive right at this moment," he says.
Enjoy a tour, sip cider, hot cocoa and Roasterie coffee. Munch on homemade cookies and other delicious holiday treats.
Between 1 and 4 pm, view live sculpture when aerialists of all ages (from UMO School of Physical Arts) 'dance in the air' in the stunning, sunlit Atrium, while circus gymnastics happens in the new, adjacent windowed spaces.
Free and open to all, come, imagine and be inspired. Open Space for all!
art. heart. soul.
